Through my years of practicing and teaching yoga, I have come to realize that regular engagement with this ancient tradition fosters mental clarity, deepens self-awareness, alleviates stress, and enhances overall well-being.

I offer both public and private classes, including personalized one-on-one sessions, and I organize transformative yoga retreats in beautiful destinations.

Mary Monrose-Elke

Mary Monrose-Elke established Peace and Calm in 2001, beginning her yoga journey by teaching at local fitness centres. In 2003, she hosted her first retreat in Edenbridge, Kent, marking the start of her mission to make yoga accessible to all.

Through her work, Mary provides affordable yoga retreats, day sessions, and classes, all designed to foster peace and calm, allowing participants to rejuvenate and rest. A certified yoga teacher with more than 500 hours of professional training, Mary is recognized by the Yoga Alliance.

Sivananda Yoga is a traditional style of Hatha Yoga based on the teachings of Swami Sivananda, and it typically includes a set of 12 basic asanas (yoga postures) that are performed in a specific sequence.

Her training began with the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Organisation’s Yoga Teacher Training course in 2001 at Val Morin, Canada, followed by an Advanced Teacher Training Course at the Sivananda Yoga Retreat in Nassau, the Bahamas, in 2003.

She also teaches yoga to special interest groups, including the over 60s, primary school children, expectant mothers, and individuals with learning disabilities, as well as mother and baby groups. Additionally, Mary led the doctors’ referral scheme at Fusion Fitness in Southwark until 2005.

Mary feels incredibly privileged to share the transformative benefits of yoga. Over the years, she has collaborated with schools, councils, and government agencies on Healthy Living initiatives, offering yoga, relaxation, and meditation workshops that cultivate peace and calm in daily life.

Her yoga retreats span both the UK and international locations, providing participants with a serene environment to deepen their practice. Mary’s personal yoga journey incorporates a range of styles, including Ashtanga, Bikram, Kundalini, and Sivananda. With extensive training under various respected teachers, she combines these influences to infuse creativity, dynamism, and deep relaxation into each session.

For Mary, teaching yoga is not only about imparting knowledge but also about continual learning. She finds inspiration in her students and fellow teachers, recognizing that her journey as a teacher is inseparable from her experience as a student. It is through this exchange that her understanding evolves and deepens.

Mary warmly invites others to join her retreats, whether for a weekend or a longer seven to ten day experience. These retreats offer a unique opportunity to recharge, reconnect, and embrace a sense of peace and calm, all while engaging with a like-minded community in a nurturing setting.
